About

Academics for Pensions Justice campaigns for better governance of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), the main pension fund for the UK higher education sector. We are an unincorporated association formed in March 2018 to crowd-fund specialist legal advice to enquire into potential mismanagement of the fund by the USS Board of Trustees.

As members of the USS pension scheme ourselves, we are concerned at the way that the scheme has been managed and the alleged size of the deficit identified by the Trustees. Our aim is to ensure transparency and accountability of USS Trustees, and to seek improvements in USS governance arrangements so that all USS members can see that their actions as trustees are demonstrably in the exclusive interests of the members of the fund.

Our CrowdJustice campaign raised an initial £50,000 in less than 36 hours. We have instructed Gordon Dadds as our solicitors, and are working with them to prepare instructions for counsel.
